Review on Femern railway project
For the Danish Ministry of Transport and in cooperation with KPMG and URS Scott Wilson, Emcon has made a quality assurance review on the environmental impact assessment of the railway infrastructure in connection with the Femern connection. This very exciting project represents a very import piece in the national railway strategy and must be considered on of the largest railway projects in the next few years.

Toqqavik has become member of the Artic Business Network
- and has participated in the Business Greenland Conference 2012 in Aalborg, Denmark. Toqqavik has hereby expanded its network to companies working with logistics, exploiting minerals and petroleum and the connected supply industry. The Artic Business Network is a transatlantic network with focus on developing cooperation between companies, organizations and authorities in Greenland and Northern Jutland (Denmark).

House of Families in Nuuk
For "Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq", Toqqavik has assisted in preparing tender documents for the institution "House of Families" in Nuuk on a turnkey competition basis. Having received the tenders, Toqqavik has evaluated the technical content and has been secretary of the jury, which - with Knut Eirik Dahl, architect and professor from the company Dahl-Uhre, Tromsø, as President - has evaluated the architectual qualities of the tenders.

New DSV headquarters in Hedehusene, Copenhagen
DSV builds new headquarters on the site "Jasonsminde" in Hedehusene, Copenhagen. The building includes a new head office for 700 employees and a 15,000 m² logistic centre for transshipment of goods. Emcon is appointed client consultant for DSV and will handle the project and process management, time and financial management, and review of project documents from consultants and contractors. Initially Emcon is competition secretary for an invited architectural competition including preparation of building program and competitive conditions.

The Øresund Bridge - Replacement of video detection
Around 140 cameras in the Øresund motorway tunnel including the video dectection system in the tunnel and along the Øresund Bridge are right now beeing replaced. The video decection system spots tailbacks and vehicles stopping illegally or driving in the wrong direction of traffic. Emcon assists the Øresund Bridge Consortium with project management in tendering, contracting and implementation.

New assignments for Toqqavik
Toqqavik ApS, as leading consultancy, in cooperation with Masanti A/S, Greenlandic architect and engineer company and the Danish architect Erik Møller Arkitekter A/S, has been assigned to do the building inspection of 65 state properties in Greenland. Toqqavik will subsequently be in charge of the consulting services for the refurbisment works of the properties. The inspection works are due to be carried out in the summer 2012 and the refurbisment works in the years to follow. The Toqqavik focus area will be task management and representative to the authorities. Masati A/S and Erik Møller Arkitekter A/S will be in charge of the building inspections and the technical counseling.

Process consultancy - new container harbour in Nuuk
Toqqavik has for a period supported the task group of the future harbour company in Nuuk, Greenland, with process consultancy and preparing of the project plan for building a new container harbour in Nuuk including construction work on landside. The project comprises building of a new 324 meter long harbour quay, renovation of the connecting roads, 2 new roundabouts, and a new two-way road tunnel under the quarter Nuussuaq. The expected total expenses of the project amount to almost half a billion kroner (MJ)

The Municipality of Frederiksberg has awarded the new building and landscape belonging to Forest and Landscape, Faculty of Life Science in Copenhagen a Design award. Designed by the architects Rørbæk & Møller and Schønherr Landscape. Emcon has been consultant for the user and the tenant at the Faculty of Life Science in Copenhagen.

Codan Insurance in Oslo
Norwegian Property has started a large developer project including a number of office buildings close to Codan Forsikrings head office in Oslo. Emcon has evaluated the consequences from the developer project before and under the construction period in order to give Codan Forsikring reasons for a decision to prolong the lease contract at Drammensveien.

QA for Ministry of Transportation
Emcon has on previous occasions, for the Ministry of Transportation, conducted several quality assessments of EIA reports prepared by the Road Directorate. In cooperation with Capacent, now merged with KPMG, Emcon has quality assessed further 2 EIA reports, namely Motorway Extension between Kolding and Fredericia and New motorway south of Regstrup, part of the highway between Holbæk and Kalundborg. The total Capital appropriations are estimated to be 841, respectively. 411 million. kr.

Parking at the Theatre
Realdania has entered into an agreement with the Danish Ministry of Culture about building a parking facility and creating a fantastic square at the Danish National Theatre in Copenhagen. Emcon has been appointed advisor to Realdania through the project until comissioning in 2015.

Homes in Greenland
Qarsoq studio Aps and Clement Carlsen were both first prize winners in the competition to design the 80 new cooperative housing homes wich The Greenland government will build in the smaller cities over the next 3-4 years. Inuplan Ltd. are engineers on both proposals. It is intended that the most dilapidated and obsolete buildings must be replaced by new modern homes where several generations can live close together. The shared first premium was DKK 100,000 to each. The winning proposals provide a good example of how life can unfold in a tight community under one roof and a second bid in a more informal community that is based more on outdoor common life on a sheared terrace. INI Construction Engineering Ltd. has conducted the competition assisted by toqqavik aps, emcon Nuuk. Their client advisor Kim Hoite worked as the competitions secretary. All of the reviewed proposals are posted on the governments website, www. nanoq.gl under news along with the full judges report.

Lars Boje Rasmussen has passed away
Our dear colleague, friend and Partner Lars Boje Rasmussen died on March 1st 2011 from an incurable cancer. We will all miss Lars both at Emcon and Toqqavik and we will remember Lars for good spirits, plenty of energy and drive, initiative, creativity and his explicit sense of esthetics.

Institute of Nature in Greenland
Aage V. Jensen Charitiy Foundation has donated an expansion of 820 sqm of the Institute of Nature in Greenland. The expansion has a desgin very similar to the original and was opened January 19th 2011. Emcon and Toqqavik have been advisor to the Foundations and the Institute throughout the proces since 1995 where the first architectural competition was held.

Honor CBS Campus
With the project 'The Campus Area around CBS', Marianne Levinsen Landscape was nominated in September / October 2010 for the finals at the 6th Bienale within landscape art in Barcelona among nine nominees out of 500 projects and ended up in top 3. The campus area around Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is constructed as a part of CBS's teaching building called the Quoin. The Quoin is designed by Lundgård og Tranberg Architects A/S. The Quoin has already been honored with the English architecture prize RIBA Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Danish award for Woodworks 2006. Emcon was Client Consultant for CBS in the planning and implementation of campus and the Quoin.

A complying tendering
Tendering without the aftermath of a complaint is a hot topic these days. The IT-systems of municipalities and new legislation has given rise to much debate and media focus. We have for many years advised Owners through the tender phase and we think the juridical correctness has to meet with practicality and a clear and simple administration is essential. In 2007-08 Emcon was responsible editor for the revision of the Client's Guide from 2003 for the Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority. Updates cover developments in public construction works since 2003 and comprise existing rules for procurement and contracting etc. as of mid 2007. The new Clients Guide (BV 08) has been restructuret and is applicable to all public Clients - State, Regiol, Municipality and other public Clients - but can be usefully for all professional Clients. The guide can be found on the internet, but is allso published in book form by Byggecentrum. Depot for nuclear waste
Danish Decommissioning is in charge of decommissioning the nuclear test site at Riso, Denmark, has asked Emcon to assist in tendering consultancy for initial planning of a depot for radioactive waste. The reactor is under decommissioning and the initial planning comprises evaluation of 3 different technical solutions including budgeting and risk analysis in order to choose a solution. Professionally a very exiting job.

There was great interest in the EU-prequalification of tenders for the rebuilding of the nursing home Ryholtgård in Copenhagen. 17 building contractors applied and the 5 selected (all Danish) are: E. UN Agencies in Denmark is to relocate to commen facilities in an attemt på attract further new agencies to Denmark. The UN City is part of a larger project development at Marmormolen across from Langelinie in the Copenhagen North Harbour. The development also includes a hotel, commercial buildings and housing.

INspirational tour of London
Emcons inspirational tour of London offered a site visit to the new storage and science facilities - shaped like a giant cocoon - in the almost finished Darwin Centre designed by danish C.F. Moller. We also visited several buildings designed by Sir Norman Foster, including a new roof over the open space at the British Museum. Plenty of impressions - both professional and social.

Limited tender for National Bank of Denmark
The National Bank of Denmark has to have the roof covering a big part of their building replaced. The Danish Ministry of Transportation and Energy has awarded EMCON, with Scott Willson, UK as subconsultant, a contract concerning External Quality Assurance of the Danish Rail Signalling Programme. The external QA is part of the Ministry's new budgeting procedure for major projects and the Signalling Project is the first project to undergo this procedure. The External Quality Assurance includes both technical issues and the process. The job will be carried out for The Ministry of Transport and Energy in close co-operation with Rail Net Denmark and Danish National Rail Authority.

Greve Municipality, Real Estate Centre has appointed EMCON as Owners advisor for the sale of a larger area in Tune. Proces coordinator for Copenhagen Municipality
EMCON is appointed to be process coordinator for the construction company Juul & Nielsen A/S, who, together with KANT Arkitekter and Damgaard Rådgivende Ingeniører in February 2007, was price winning in the competition concerning the rebuild and fit-out project of a 20.000 sqm office area for 'the most modern workplace of the world', for the municipality of Copenhagen in Hans Nansens Gaard.

Institute of Nature in Greenland expands
Centre of Nature Research under the Home Rule of Greenland was during the late 90's relocated into a new building beautifully situated on a hilltop by the University Park just outside Nuuk. The Centre of Research is now to be expanded by approx. 800 m2 within the frame of the original plan for development formed by KHR Architects AS.
Funding is again secured by Aage V. Jensen Trust Fund and the new area is to be opened by the end of 2008. EMCON is working as the Owners Advisor during design and construction.

Advisor to Community Dwelling
Only very few community dwellings have been build in the past 20 years. In less than half a year, a small group of committed persons has grown to necessary size and set up values, goals and ideas for the dwelling. Dorte Mandrup Architects has carried out the ideas in a spectacular design, and a turn key contract has been made with Frederiksberg Byggeentreprise. Works on site starts March 2007 and will be finished April 2008. The community dwellings are situated near Herstedvester in the Municipality of Albertslund. 54 apartments and a common house form a block around a large green. The common house has kitchen and dining facilities for all as well as rooms for workshops, laundry etc. The community is situated in a small forest where also parking takes place.

2006 - A good year for EMCON
Our fine annual result of 2006 was celebrated properly with a fantastic dinner at the restaurant Paustian. Here the chef works as an alchemist, putting together details in a new way and turning commonly known ingrediens into a perfect whole.

KILEN wins national and international awards
Lundgaard & Tranberg Arkitektfirma A/S, who designed Copenhagen Business Schools remarkable building Kilen, will on the 23th of November 2006 receive the danish award - Træprisen 2006 - for their unique use of timber. Lundgaard & Tranberg Arkitektfirma A/S and the Kilen-project was honoured with the English RIBA Award from Royal Institute of British Architects. The award is given to buildings with "high architectural standard and contribution to their local environment" and Kilen was chosen among different projects from all over Europe.
